2 Bathroom Shelves

These are some easy shelves that fit in a small space to add extra storage or decor.

Materials:
1x8x8' dimensional lumber
12- 2.5" grabber screws
4- 1.5" grabber screws
white water based paint
dark brown water based stain

Tools:
Chop saw (or have cut at home center when purchasing)
drill motor/ drill bit/ driver bit
orbital sander
paint brush
sandpaper

Cut List:
4- 1x8 pcs 16" long
2- 5.5 pcs 5.5" long and then cut diagonally (4 total triangles)
Cut lumber to specified dimensions.  This sample was made 16" wide.  I wish I would have made them 18" wide instead.

Using orbital sander, sand all sides of each piece.
Begin assembling by stacking the bottom piece on the edge of the back and predrill 4 holes evenly spaced only the bottom edge into the back edge.

Fasten with 2.5" grabber screws.

Now that the bottom and the back are attached, add the ends.  For a different look, place ends .25" from edge as shown here.  (The sample was attached flush to ends)

To attached ends, use 2 different size screws so the smaller screw is used toward the tapered end.

Pre-drill 2 holes in each edge of sides, and attach with screws.

Now it's completely assembled and ready for paint.

Paint all sides of each shelf.  Allow to dry.  Use sandpaper to scuff up edges of shelf for a rustic, aged look.

Use a dripping wet rag to wipe down half shelf with water.  If shelf is too dry, the stain may not wipe off easily for desired effect.

Apply stain to edges and dot over half of shelf.

Use damp rag to wipe off excess stain to achieve desired effect.
Repeat on remaining half of shelf.

Once stain has dried, apply clear coat and let dry.  Add another clear coat layer and you're done!
Attach to wall using 2- 2.5" grabber screws for each shelf.  Use a stud finder to identify where studs are and drive 2 screws through the back of the shelf into 2 separate studs.

These hooks were purchased at Ikea and attached to a piece of lumber
